We’ve always enjoyed discovering local art while traveling, but until recently, our experiences were usually limited to self-guided museum tours or catching a glimpse of art in hotels. Without a guide, we often missed the deeper meaning behind specific pieces.
London’s upscale Brown’s Hotel wants to change that. This Rocco Forte hotel now offers Saturday morning art tours aimed at supporting the local art scene in the historic Mayfair neighborhood. Here, shops and galleries are struggling to stay open due to the influx of international fashion chains.
Each week, a different gallery director leads a small group of up to eight guests through local galleries such as Albemarle Gallery, Andrew Clayton Payne, The Belgravia Gallery, and Ben Brown Fine Arts, among others. The tour begins at the hotel, where you can learn about notable works by artists like Tracey Emin, Mat Collishaw, and Bridget Riley that are displayed in the hotel itself.
For £60 per person, the tour includes coffee or tea at The Library at Brown’s Hotel, visits to four Mayfair galleries, and a three-course lunch at HIX Mayfair. It sounds like a lovely way to spend a Saturday, doesn’t it?
